Things that I Learned this Year

We are in the end of the academic year and we are preparing for the final exams. This year went very quickly and I had a lot of things that I learned. During this year we had many projects and presentations so we worked under pressure.

First, I learned how to organize my work and I should be careful with the time. Second, I learned how to lead a group because I was a leader for my group in some projects. Also, I learned how to respect my colleagues' ideas because we had different ideas. The third thing I learned is how to make presentations and how to speak in the presentations. Forth, we had many projects and during the projects I learned how to meet new people confidently because I am sometimes being shy when I meet new people. Fifth, of course I improved my English because we had a good teacher and she was welling to teach us. Also, I learned some grammar and my writing improved.

In the end I want to say to my teachers Ms. Eileen and Ms. Narges thank you for teaching us and I hope to have teachers like you in next semester. Also, I am sorry for anything wrong came from me and I am sorry if I disturbed you.
I hope you enjoy in your summer holiday and see you next semester. I am going to get a summer job and I will write about my holiday and my job. I hope you read it.

Strange but True

It was 3 AM when I woke up to see a strange bright light shining outside my bedroom window. I thought I was dreaming so I washed my face and I returned but I saw it again. I felt nervous because it was the first night for me in Canada and I didn't see this thing before. I went to my friend's room and I woke him up to see the light. When he saw the light he started laughing and I was surprised. He told me that it was a northern light and it shines every night also he told me to sleep and not to be nervous. It was really a strange light but it was with beautiful colors and I liked it. At the next night, I went to bed and I saw the northern light for several hours because it was really wonderful lights. When I was seeing the light, I saw a plane but it was like a spaceship. I didn’t know what it was and I didn’t care about it so I slept.
After that, When I was sleeping I heard a strange sound and I woke up and I went to open the door because I thought that my friend knocked the door. When I opened the door, I saw nobody and I felt nervous. After that, I heard the same sound but this time it was from the window. I opened the window and I saw a spaceship and maybe 100 aliens were around the spaceship. I felt nervous and I tried to hail my friend but I couldn’t because my voice was gone. After that, an alien came to me and he touched me. He had one eye and four arms and his face was ugly. I spoke with him in English but he didn’t understand and I tried Arabic also he didn’t understand. After that, he took me to the spaceship and he took me to his boss. Fortunately, the boss was speaking English so I understood him. He asked me to go with them to the space and absolutely I agreed because I am interested in learning more about the space. They were very kind to me and they gave me delicious foods.
After 15 minutes we arrived to the moon and when we arrived they gave me special clothes because there was no oxygen on the moon. The weather was very hot but I didn’t feel about the weather because I was wearing the special clothes. We spent there about 1 hour walking on the moon and when we were walking the boss was explaining to me about rocks on the moon. After that, we returned to the earth and he told me to make a presentation about what I did and what I learned on that night. Also, he told me that they will come in 2010 because they wanted to see me. I was very happy and I gave him gifts to remember me.

The Fifth Day in Job Shadowing

Today is the last day in Job Shadowing so I am very happy. Today I arrived my work 15 minutes late because there was an accident on the road and there was a lot of traffic. When I arrived, I saw my mentor and she was waiting me. After that, she asked her colleague to explain to me her work.

Ms. Badriah is a Customer Service Admin and she responsible for the monthly reports. She keeps records because there is a competition between the municipality centers. Her work is arranging the events and meetings, submitting the monthly reports which should start from the 25th of every month to the 25th of the next month. The reports include: Number of the customers, Number of the visits to and from the center, Number of services provided at the center and Number of reports sent form the quality service officer.

After that, I went to the Finance Department and I met Mr. Yousef who is a cashier and he told me about his work. His job is receiving money from the customer if they have a fine or trust from Control Food Department or Buildings Department or any department in the center. For fines, he takes their money and put it in the Municipality Account. For trust, he takes the customers' money and gives them when they give him a permission from the department which the customers come from.

After that, I was told to go to the Buildings Department specially to the Engineering Supervision Section. I met Mr. Saleh Al Mahri who is an inspector in this section and he explained to me about his work. His work is to inspect buildings which is under the establishing. If he see any contractor doesn't cover the Municipality rules, he will give him a warning. Also, if the contractor didn't fix the wrong in one week, he will receive a fine and the fine sometimes be 100,000 dirhams.

Today was the busiest day in Job Shadowing because I visited many departments. At the end of the work day I felt sad because I will miss them. They were very kind to me and they did the best to help me and to teach me theirs work. Also, I thanked my mentor and every employee and I told them that I am going to visit them when I finish my exams.

The Forth Day in Job Shadowing

Today is the forth day in Job Shadowing. I arrived to my work 10 minutes late because my sister has an exam so I arrived her to her school. When I arrived to my work I didn't see my mentor and the manager so I asked the secretary about them. She told me that they have a meeting in Al Towar Center and they will come at 11 o'clock. After that, she told me to go to the Building Department and I met Mr. Waleed Abdulkareem who is the supervisor in this section.

He explained to me his job, he recieves reports from the employees who report to him. The employees work is to search buildings which don't have a permission. If they see someone built in his house without permission they will give him a warning and if he don't demolish it in one week, they will give him a fine. Also, if he don't pay for the fine and he has a family, he won't have water in his house. And if he doesn't have a family, he won't have water and the electricity because they will cut it. Maybe he will can't renew his passport so we must be careful and don't contradict the law. Mr. Waleed was very kind and friendly because he helped people who can't pay immeadiately and sometimes he forgives old men.

After that, I went to Mr. Rashid Al Taheri who is a Customer Service Admin. He workes in the One-Point Services Section and their services are Environmental, Financial, Administrative and Technical Services.

In the end of the day I felt bored because I didn't have work to do, but I found one work it's to write in my blog. I hope that I am doing well in my work and in blogger.

The Third Day in Job Shadowing

Today is the third day in Job Shadowing. Today I arrived to my work on time but I spent 2 hours without working because my mentor didn't have work to do. I don't like staying without working so I told my mentor that I am going to visit some sections in the center and she agreed with me.

There was a section from Environmental Center for Arab Towns (ECAT) and I went there and I met Mr. Khalid Al Souqi who works in this section. I introduced my self and I asked him to tell me about his center. He told me that ECAT is affiliated with the Arab Town Organization. Also, he said that ECAT's vision is to make Arab Towns safety, healthy and without pollution. When I saw him, he was working in a presentation so I asked him what is he doing? He said that they have a meeting on Thursday and people from different countries are coming to the meeting and he is preparing a presentation to speak in front of them.

After that, the manager told me to go to Mr. Adil Abdulqader (Arif's brother). I went to him and he told me about his work. He is a Quality Officer and his work is outside, he takes pictures if there are rubbish on roads or broken traffic sings or any thing is wrong. Sometimes the complaints are related to Etisalat, DEWA and RTA. After he take pictures he sends the complaints to these organizations. After that, we went to Zaabeel 1 to take some pictures if we find any thing wrong. We found a rubbish on a road in Zaabeel 1 and I took a picture for it and in the end we had 22 complaints.

The Second Day in Job Shadowing

Today is the second day in Job Shadowing. I was worried because I left home late at 6:50 am and I thought that I will not arrive my work on time. Although I left home late, but I arrived to my work at 7:20 am and I was lucky because today there was no traffic in roads.

When I arrived Mr. Rashid Al Janahi who is the manager of Al Karamah Center told me not to work with my mentor but he told me to work in the reception because it's very busy form 7:30 to 9 o'clock. In the reception the receptionist Ms. Badreiah explained to me her work. After that, I answered the phones and I helped her to photocopy the papers which the customers want them. After that, the manager showed me the Food Control Department in the center and I met Mr. Abdulrahman who is the supervisor of this department. He greeted me and explained to me in PowerPoint about his work and the employees who report to him.

The First Day in Job Shadowing

Today is the first day for Job Shadowing. Today I woke up at 5:45 am and I left home at 6:30 and I was happy because I will not go to the college but in the same time I felt nervous because it's the first day and I was alone. My brother wasn't with me because he took a holiday so I felt nervous. I arrived there at 7:30 so I took one hour to arrive there. When I arrive I went to the secretary and she greeted me because she knows me. After that, I met the manager and he told me to go to my mentor. My mentor is Ms. Nadia and her job title is Customer Service Officer she is very kind and she tought me about her work. Her work is orgnizing the centre parking for employees and orgnize holidays for them. After that, she left her work because she has a course in ICDL so the manager told me to go to the reciption and learn their work. I learned that they answer phones and give the customers a form for car parking. Also, they give them a form for buildings pormotion if the customers want to change something in their buildings.

This is about what I did and what I learnd today.

My Plans for Job Shadowing

Next week, we won't have classes at the college because we have to do job shadowing for one week. I am going to work at Dubai Municipality with my brother. It is so far from my house because I am going to work in Al Karamah Branch. I am going to go with my brother because I don't know where is the place. I am going to wake up early because there will be traffic in the Emirates Road. At work, Iam going to send reports to Miss Narges about what I did? What I learned? And What I liked and disliked? Also, I am going to work from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm and I think it would be difficult to me because I wake up at 7:00 and I go to the college at 7:45 but next week I have to wake up early maybe at 5:45 and leave home at 6:30.

I am going to write in my blog everyday about what I did at work when I return home...
